Vibrant Abstract Shapes in Exquisite Hues — Print & Oil Painting

The composition is a horizon. A band of hot gold and amber runs the full width of the picture just above the midpoint, and everything over and under it is violet, purple and magenta, so the canvas divides into two opposed temperatures meeting along a single line.

Along that line the artist has laid a tangle of fine luminous threads. They knot together at the centre into a dense loop of loops, then trail away left and right as long single filaments reaching both edges, and they are the only continuous line in a picture otherwise made entirely of short marks.

Those marks are the substance of everything else. Thousands of small vertical strokes, each loaded and set down on its own, in violet, plum, yellow and orange, packed tightly enough to read as a field rather than as individual touches. Below the gold band they lengthen and run downward like something wet.

Gold against violet is one of the sharpest oppositions available on the colour wheel, and the picture spends its entire budget on it, admitting no third colour anywhere.
