Catwoman Close-Up as Batman Waits in the Alley — Print & Oil Painting

Brick is the only fully described surface in this picture. A narrow band of it runs up the middle of the frame, every course given its own mortar line and reddish stain, and it does the work of an entire stage set: this is an alley, at night, with a wall between two people.

Catwoman occupies the left two thirds, cropped at the knee, leaning back against that wall in three-quarter view. Her suit is painted as one long reflective sweep of black with grey highlights tracking the shoulder and hip, the mask fits close to the face with the goggles raised, and her mouth is set in a small flat line. She is looking away, out past the left edge.

Batman amounts to a few inches of paint at the far right, half hidden behind the corner of the wall: cowl, one eye slit, a wedge of cape falling into shadow. He is smaller, lower in contrast, and unmistakably the second thing you find.
