Batman Swinging on His Line Through the City — Print & Oil Painting

A thin cord enters at the top left corner, loops once, and runs down to a gloved fist just inside the frame. It is drawn with a fine steady line against an orange sky, and it is the only element in the picture that explains why the body beneath it is in the air.

The figure comes at us on a strong diagonal, foreshortened so the shoulders and chest sit much closer than the hips, the free arm swinging out to the right and the jaw pushed forward. The eyes are two white slits under a heavy brow, and the head is turned very slightly off the line of travel, as though something below has already been chosen.

Behind him the cape opens into a wide scalloped shape filling both upper corners. It is drawn as flat solid black with no internal modelling at all, which lets it work as pure silhouette against the sky and keeps it from competing with the heavily rendered armour.

The city is handled with restraint: cool blue towers on both sides, small warm windows, a construction crane at the upper right, everything kept low in contrast.
