Ashe Drawing a Blazing Arrow in the Sky — Print & Oil Painting

The sky takes almost the whole canvas: a scrubbed grey-blue cloudbank, thick and turbulent, with broken rock tumbling through it at several distances. There is no ground anywhere in the picture, which leaves the archer suspended in mid-air with nothing to stand on.

She is seen from below and slightly to the side, the bow drawn across her body, the string pulled back past the shoulder. The weapon is the strongest thing in the frame: a long recurve whose limbs look like cooling metal, cracked with orange-red heat along their whole length, and the arrow on the string burns with them. That warmth spreads onto her forearm and thigh, and it is the only warm light in the painting.

The rendering departs from the frost archer as she is usually shown. Her hair is painted a heavy brown rather than the silver-white of her standard portraits, and the bow burns where it would normally freeze, so the piece reads as an alternate cast of the character rather than a study from the familiar one. What survives of the canon design is the blue-green armour: layered plate at the shoulders, a bracer, a plated boot, all in the same teal metal, worn with a red sash and a feathered ornament in the hair.

Paint handling is soft throughout, edges blurred into the cloud, detail concentrated in the face and the bow hand. Part of our League of Legends collection, and best hung near the white-hawk version of the same archer, where the bow is a thing of ice again.
