James T. Kirk Standing Atop Alien Rocks — Print & Oil Painting

Flat colour and a black line, with no attempt to disguise either. The sky is a single pale blue holding nothing at all; the rocks along the bottom are grey-brown with hatched shadow; the figure is filled with three values at most. This is comic drawing of the older school, where the contour carries the whole picture and the colour simply obeys it.

Two white discs hang behind him, one large and set directly behind the head so that it works as a halo, one smaller and off to the left. Neither is given a rim, a flare or any modelling, which leaves them ambiguous between suns and moons and rather improves them.

The pose is the standing survey: one boot planted on the rock, the forearm resting across the raised knee, the other hand hanging loose and slightly curled. The tunic is the green wrap-front rather than the familiar gold, crossed at the chest and belted, with two bands of braid ringing each cuff.

That green tunic is not an invention. It was a genuine alternate worn on the series alongside the gold one, swapped in and out without a word of explanation, and using it here quietly places the image inside the run of the original show rather than anywhere later.
