About this artwork

In The good shepherd, the composition is lit from within, in a dramatic tonal range. orange and red carry most of the surface. Chroma sits at a comfortable, lifelike level. It suits pale interiors, where it reads as an extension of the light rather than a break in it.

This one comes from our Thomas Cole collection — 179 works sharing a single world. Collectors of this universe often hang it alongside An Evening in Arcadia and The Temple of Segesta with the Artist Sketching.

Available as a print or as an original oil painting. Prints are made with pigment inks on synthetic canvas. Paintings are hand-executed in oil on cotton canvas — each one differs slightly from the last, which is the nature of the medium. Before anything is dispatched you receive photographs and a video of the finished work.

The artwork is landscape-oriented, at 1:1.5 — it settles naturally above a sofa, a bed or a sideboard. Sizes run from 45 x 30 cm to 226 x 150 cm — 10 in all, each named after its shorter side. Rolled is available throughout the range; stretched and framed go up to 100 cm.

Expect $113 for the smallest print. Express tracked delivery is on us, anywhere in the world, and you are covered for 15 days.
