The viewpoint is the entire idea. It sits directly overhead and high enough that the water becomes a flat green field with no horizon and no shore, and one wooden boat lies across the middle of the frame in perfect plan view. Nothing else appears. There is no scale reference anywhere except the boat itself.

That boat is a long pointed almond of pale bleached timber, and from above its whole interior is legible at once: the cross benches, the floorboards, the ribs running along each side, a stack of loose planks toward the stern, a green net bundled against the gunwale, a blue box, a round woven basket at the far end.

A person is lying full length inside it, on their back, wrapped from shoulder to ankle in a pale blue cloth. A white conical hat rests at the head, bare feet emerge at the other end, and the body follows the axis of the hull exactly. It is the smallest element in the frame and it reorganises everything: the boat stops being a vessel and becomes a bed.

The water is a dense sea green covered edge to edge in fine regular ripples that catch the light as thin pale lines, darkening very slightly toward the corners. Against that uniformity the hull sits almost dead centre, tilted a few degrees off the horizontal, and the small blue rectangle of a tarpaulin near the middle is the one colour belonging neither to the timber nor to the water.
