Bloodborne's Moon Presence — Print & Oil Painting

A field of white flowers fills the lower half of the frame from edge to edge, thousands of small pale heads packed tight together, and everything that matters here is a question of who is standing in it. On the left, a small pale figure in a long gown. On the right, at some distance, something very tall and very dark.

The gap between them is the composition. A wide empty middle has been left where the mist and the light meet, so the two presences never touch and never turn toward each other, and the flowers run on continuously between them like ground that belongs to neither.

The tall shape is the Moon Presence, and it is given exactly as the game gives it: a body of exposed spine and ribs, no face anywhere, and a head that is nothing but a knot of long dark tendrils falling like hair. The limbs trail away into more of them. Behind it a red moon sits low and swollen among bare trees.

The surface has the soft banding and flattened contrast of a captured frame rather than the tooth of a painted one, and the very wide proportion suits a long low wall. Part of our Bloodborne collection, where the painted version of the same encounter takes the identical scene in much heavier colour.
