Divinity's Heroes Clash Among Giant Dice — Print & Oil Painting

Three red dice lie on the flagstones at the feet of the fight. They are twenty sided, one of them showing a nine, and they are scaled to the size of crates. They are also the only objects in the picture that do not belong to the world it depicts, which is entirely the joke.

The brawl above them runs left to right across a wide canvas. A bearded caster in blue and gold gathers light in both hands at the far left. Behind him an archer in red draws at full stretch. A swordsman in leather and plate lunges forward with a two handed blade. A winged reptilian creature rears back on clawed feet, and a bark skinned figure with a long spear closes from the right edge. Purple magic detonates in the middle of all of it.

The setting is a hall of tall arches and columns receding into warm light, floored in cool grey tile. That colour split does the compositional work: warm architecture behind, cool floor below, and the violet flashes sitting exactly between the two.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 shipped with a Game Master Mode, a set of tools that lets one player run a campaign for the others the way a tabletop session works, dice rolls included. The dice on the flagstones are that idea taken literally, and they turn the whole scene into a table someone is playing on.
