Lightning Farron Enigmatic Fantasy Muse — Print & Oil Painting

Crystal shards drift through the entire background, dozens of them, pale blue-white and edge-lit, turning inside a grey mist that has been brushed into slow spirals. They are the one element tying the picture to Final Fantasy XIII, where crystal is not ornament but a sentence: the stasis waiting for anyone the game has marked.

Against that cold field the figure carries all the warmth. Rose-pink hair falls past the collarbones in loose waves, the eyes are pale green under a level brow, and a red-lined cape hangs from a single white pauldron on the left shoulder. Those three things, the hair, the pauldron and the red lining, are what identify Lightning Farron here.

The costume itself belongs to the artist. Her uniform in the games is a zipped jacket over a pleated skirt; what she wears in this painting is a laced black corset with articulated plates, a long black glove and a gauntlet on the right forearm. It is an invented outfit assembled from her real colour scheme.

The rendering is smooth and airbrushed, the skin worked up to a high polish while the mist behind is kept deliberately coarse so the figure sits forward. A canvas grain runs across the whole surface and takes some of the gloss off the finish.
