Ciri Raises a Red-Gloved Hand in the Forest — Print & Oil Painting

One red glove in a canvas of green-black, and that is the whole design. The hand is up at chest height with the fingers spread and the palm turned outward, a saturated scarlet against a forest painted almost entirely in deep blue-green, and the eye has nowhere else to go.

The other arm is doing the opposite kind of work. It is lifted behind the head, reaching back over the shoulder for the hilt, with the ring pommel showing above her hair and the blade angling down past her hip on the right. One gesture is a warning, the other is a preparation.

The clothing is described in full: a loose cream blouse pulled off one shoulder and laced at the front, a tan leather bodice, a broad belt set with round green-blue stones, a strap crossing the chest diagonally, dark wine leggings. A gold-toned plate covers the forearm below the red glove, and a studded leather bracer the other.

Behind her the wood is dense and cold, worked in low-contrast blue-green with almost no drawing in it, except at the upper right where sunlight catches a spray of leaves and turns them warm gold. That one warm passage is what keeps the background from closing flat.
