Ahsoka Tano fighting darth Maul — Print & Oil Painting

Painted in what looks like coloured pencil and gouache, with visible tooth in the paper and none of the polish of a digital render, which gives the fight a handmade weight that suits it.

The staging is low and cramped. Ahsoka is at the right, crouched almost to the floor with one gloved hand planted flat on the plating to hold herself steady, head up and turned toward the threat. She wears a pale blue-grey tunic with a skirted panel and tall boots, and a blue blade is held across her body on the diagonal.

Maul comes in from the left as a mass of dark red and maroon robes, largely seen from behind, with the horned head in near-silhouette at the top. His double-bladed hilt is held across his body and both red blades are lit, one sweeping up across the top of the frame, the other slashing down through the bottom right. Between them they box her in.

The detail worth finding is at the lower left: the leg emerging from the robes is machinery, not flesh: jointed metal, exposed and unhidden. It is a small thing in the corner of a busy picture, and it explains a great deal about why this particular opponent keeps coming back.

Everything behind them is cold industrial blue: ribbed columns, a cracked panel, a sealed door. The two red blades and her single blue one carry all the light in the room. Part of our Star Wars collection, alongside the confrontation on Mandalore and the airborne version of the same duel.
