Ahsoka Tano Watches Over a Shadowed Forest — Print & Oil Painting

The most important fact about this painting is what is not lit. Both hilts are in her hands, held down at her sides and pointing at the ground, and neither is switched on. In a collection where this character is almost always painted mid-swing, that restraint is the whole statement.

She stands frontal and centred, cut at the knee, arms relaxed and shoulders square. The costume is severe: a charcoal sleeveless top wrapped and crossed at the chest with a high collar, dark cloth bound in overlapping bands down both forearms, silver armoured cuffs at the wrists, and a broad belt closed with a plain circular buckle over a long dark skirt. Nothing about it is decorative.

The face is painted with unusual precision: orange skin, pale blue eyes, the white diamond on the brow and the white markings arching over each eye. The montrals and head-tails fall forward over both shoulders in white banded with grey-blue. Her expression is level. She is looking straight at the viewer and not reacting.

Behind her the forest is a cold teal fog with bare trunks receding into it and no ground detail at all. Against that, a warm light rakes in from behind her left shoulder and lays an orange rim along both arms and one side of the neck. Two temperatures, one figure, and no explanation offered for where the warm one is coming from.
