Ahsoka Tano Ignites Her Blades as Vader Looms Behind — Print & Oil Painting

The subject of the painting is really the dust. Ochre and gold, backlit, thick enough to have eaten the horizon and most of the ground, with embers turning through it at the lower right and a scatter of grit caught in the light around the knees.

She walks straight out of it toward the viewer, arms held down and slightly away from the body, one hilt in each hand and both blades pointed at the ground. They burn white at the core with a gold halo around them, so it is genuinely impossible to say where the plasma ends and the lit air begins, and that ambiguity is worth more than a clean colour would have been.

The costume is painted in the same range as the dust: a pale sleeveless top, a low belt with a round buckle, leggings that lighten toward the shin, armoured gauntlets at both wrists. Her feet are simply not there, dissolved into the ground haze, so she appears to be arriving rather than standing.

Behind and above, a helmet the height of a building is suggested rather than drawn, barely a value darker than the smoke it sits in: the brow, the cheek panels, the grille, and then nothing. It occupies the top third of the canvas and she gives no sign of knowing it is there.
