Ahsoka Tano Glances Back Amid a Rainy Duel — Print & Oil Painting

About this artwork
Rain is the medium of this picture. It falls in hard straight lines across the whole canvas, catching magenta on one side of her and violet on the other, and it does not stop for the figure: it strikes her shoulders, beads along the ridges of the montrals and runs off the leather of her skirt panels. Everything else has been softened. The rain is the only thing drawn sharply from top to bottom.
Ahsoka stands side-on and has turned her head back over her shoulder to look out of the frame at us. That single decision reorganises the painting, because the body is still committed to the fight and the face is not. Her expression gives nothing away: chin a little lowered, mouth closed, the white markings above the eyes taking the light.
Both hilts are held low. One long blade leaves her fist at hip height and runs up out of the left edge; the shorter one crosses beneath it near the bottom corner. Both burn white rather than blue or green, and that colour is the most specific thing in the image. Those crystals were taken from an enemy who had corrupted them, and white is what a kyber crystal becomes when it has been bled and then healed.
The opposition is kept deliberately out of focus. Two red lines cross in the middle distance on the left with a blurred shape standing behind them, and a second dark mass presses in at the right edge, very close to the lens. Meanwhile the armour she is actually wearing is painted with more care than either of them: a grey vambrace with three gold studs, a plated shoulder guard, tan panels marked in red.
From our Star Wars collection. For the same white blades raised instead of lowered see the study in the mist, and for a red-bladed opponent painted in full, this confrontation.
