The Father, Daughter, and Son Stand at the Altar of Mortis — Print & Oil Painting

Nothing here is modelled. The whole panel is built from flat shapes and gold contour lines, the way a leaded window or a mosaic is built, and depth is suggested only by overlapping discs. It is the boldest piece of graphic design in this part of the collection.

Three figures stand across the width. In the centre, tall and frontal, an old man with a long white beard, crowned by a spread of gold blades that fan out behind his head like a sunburst, his black robe falling to a point. On the left, a woman in pale green with her hair drawn as long curling ribbons that fill her half of the frame. On the right, a bald figure with a bone-white face, entirely in black, one fist closed at his side.

Behind them the wall is made of circles: wide concentric rings in slate and cream, gold discs of different sizes overlapping the figures, one of them carrying a dark upright shape at the centre of the composition. The rings are not aligned with each other, which keeps a strictly symmetrical design from going stiff.

The palette is almost entirely olive, bone and black with gold as the only accent, and no colour anywhere is fully saturated. It reads as something painted onto a wall a long time ago and cleaned once since.

The three are the family at the centre of the Mortis story: a father holding the balance between a daughter who embodies one side of the Force and a son who embodies the other, on a world that exists to make that argument literal.
