Two Baby Yodas Peek Out in Retro Style — Print & Oil Painting

Drawn rather than painted, and drawn in coloured pencil: the hatching is visible across every surface, the greens built from many small strokes, the edges softened by the tooth of the paper. It gives the picture the exact look of an airbrushed poster from forty years ago.

There are two of them. The lower one faces us straight on, chin up, wrapped in a heavy coat with a thick fur collar standing around the neck, ears held out wide and flushed pink and orange where the light passes through them. The eyes are enormous and slightly wet.

The second lies belly down on a broad fur-trimmed brown band resting directly on the first one's head, which reads as the brim of a hat and behaves like a shelf. He is stretched out along it with one ear hanging over the front edge, head turned to the right, mouth curved into something close to a smile.

Behind them the sky is deep indigo and violet with fine white stars scattered across it and one larger four-pointed star burning at the upper left. A few loose purple strokes cut across the top of the frame, the only gesture in an otherwise patient drawing.
