Bo-Katan Kryze Stands Beneath a Starry Sky — Print & Oil Painting

A portrait with no face in it. The helmet is turned three quarters away and fills the upper half of a tall canvas, so the entire burden of characterisation falls on a piece of metal and on how it has been painted.

The armour is blue-grey steel with a satin finish, and the reflections have been worked carefully: a broad soft highlight down the crown, a cooler one along the cheek, a green cast picked up at the temple where the light changes. The T of the visor is a hard black shape with a pale bar of reflection across it, and a thin antenna rises from the right side of the dome.

A pale marking sits across the brow, two curved shapes meeting at a point, like a bird seen from below. It is the only insignia anywhere on the figure and the only thing that names the clan.

Below, the shoulders carry rounded pauldrons and a fitted breastplate over a dark ribbed underlayer, each plate edged with a thin bright line. The paint loosens as it descends, so the lower half of the body is barely described at all.

Behind her the sky is deep blue-black scattered with fine white stars and one faint band of paler cloud, with no planet, no ship and no horizon anywhere in it. It is a portrait of somebody who lives between places. From our Star Wars collection, alongside her clan gathered in daylight and the warrior holding the dark blade she wanted back.
