Painted from behind, and the whole picture rests on that decision. He is walking away across flat pale desert, three-quarters turned so the helmet is just readable in profile, and the sun sits low and directly beyond his shoulder as a small white core inside a wide gold flare.

That flare does all the modelling. It rims the crown of the helmet, the top of each shoulder, the edge of the jetpack and the entire trailing edge of the cape, and everything on the near side of him drops into a warm brown half-dark. The missile standing up from the jetpack catches light along its length and becomes a bright gold spike, the sharpest single thing on the canvas.

Detail survives the backlighting where it matters. A tattered olive cape lifting to the right, a mustard shoulder plate carrying a red device, a braided cord hanging at the other shoulder, a long scoped rifle held down in one hand with the muzzle towards the sand. Low mesas sit along the horizon and the sky grades from white-gold at the sun up into deep smoky red at the top edge.

Nothing is happening, and the picture is unusually comfortable about that. A man crossing a desert with his weapon lowered, painted at the hour when everything is either gold or silhouette, walking away from whatever the canvas has chosen not to show us.
