Boba Fett Fires Twin Blasters Through Pouring Rain — Print & Oil Painting

Rain first, everything else afterwards. It comes down in long hard diagonals across the entire canvas, catching light along every stroke, and the artist has let it burst off the shoulders and the crown of the helmet so the figure looks physically hammered by the weather.

He is descending rather than standing, tilted forward with both arms out and a pistol in each hand, and both are firing: two small orange blooms, one high on the left and one low on the right, the brightest points in a picture that is otherwise blue-grey edge to edge. Behind his legs the jetpack burns two white-blue flares, and a tall pointed missile stands up from the pack above one shoulder.

The plate here is silver and pewter with blue-teal banding rather than the weathered green he is usually given, the scheme this suit wore before it came down to him. Under the chest plate sits a segmented belt of pouches, a broad thigh guard and a holster strapped to the leg. The visor carries a teal cast and there is no light behind it.

What makes the piece work is that everything is happening at once and none of it reads as a plan. Falling, firing from both hands, in weather that would ruin any shot: the picture is about commitment rather than about accuracy.
