Clone Troopers Stand Ready in a Ship Corridor — Print & Oil Painting

Three troopers, shoulder to shoulder, facing us square, and the only real light in the picture comes out of their own visors. Each T-slot burns a pale cyan and throws that colour down onto the cheek plates and the collar, so the faces glow from inside while everything else stays in cold shadow.

The centre figure is the largest and the most damaged. His helmet dome and the whole upper chest are painted a dull ochre-gold over white, and both are scratched to the primer in long parallel gouges, as though something raked across the plating repeatedly. Four small ochre discs are set in a row low on the right of the chest plate. Heavy angular pauldrons sit over both shoulders.

The two flanking him are variants of the same suit rather than copies. The one at the left is marked in grey-green with a slim rangefinder stalk folded above the temple and a carbine held across the body; the one at the right is darker, nearly charcoal, with a pale flash on the helmet and a lit green readout at the hip. None of the three is aiming at anything.

Behind them the corridor recedes as a run of vertical light strips down both walls, blown soft and out of focus, and a low ceiling band closes the top of the frame. The perspective is symmetrical and shallow, which flattens the three of them into a single frontal wall of armour.

The picture is a portrait rather than an action scene: identical men in non-identical plating, each one's paint recording a different set of afternoons. Part of our Star Wars collection, next to the legion marching beneath a gunship and the squad that never matched anyone else.
