Darth Zannah Wielding Her Saber Amid the Flames — Print & Oil Painting

The most saturated canvas in this group by a wide margin. The measurement runs to four-fifths, and the eye agrees. There is effectively one colour in this picture and it is red.

The handling is graphic rather than painterly: hard contour lines, flat fills, no blending, with the robe described as a set of black shapes edged in crimson rather than as cloth with folds in it. The hood is a single unbroken mass covering the head and shoulders, and the garment falls from it in long straight vertical strokes to the bottom of the frame.

Inside the hood the artist has spent every bit of the detail budget. Pale skin, blonde hair pulled forward over one shoulder, a small closed mouth, and the eyes are red, with dark wet streaks running down from both of them across the cheeks. It is the only passage in the image with any modelling in it at all.

The weapon is held vertically in both hands at waist height, close to the body, with one red blade rising past her chest to the upper left and the other dropping below her hands to the lower right. It is not a guard position and not a swing. She is simply holding it lit, straight up and down, like a staff.

Behind, fire fills the whole background as broad orange and black masses, with pale embers drifting up as small flecks and a carved head, jaw open and eyes burning orange, looming out of the smoke at the upper left.
