Grogu Peeking Out From His Pram, Held Close — Print & Oil Painting

The closest crop of the character in the collection. His head takes up the middle third of a square canvas, the pram is cut by all four edges, and there is no establishing information of any kind: no floor, no sky, no room.

Focus carries the whole idea. The eyes are sharp, the nearest ear is sharp, the fine hairs along the brow are sharp, and everything else slides away. Directly behind him, thrown completely out, the lower half of a bearded face leans down into the opening of the pram, close enough that the two heads share the same small pocket of space.

The lower half of the frame is filled by a heavy brown wrap, laid in with a blunt loaded brush in ridges of salmon, rust and dull gold. One small green hand with three claws rests on top of it, and that hand is the only sharp thing below his chin.

Around all of it curves the shell: pale teal ribs running over the top, a hard chrome highlight on the near rim, two orange fittings catching light at the sides. The metal is cool, the wrap is warm, and he sits exactly on the line between them.
