Grogu Resting on the Mandalorian's Helmet — Print & Oil Painting

Two objects share this canvas and they could not be less alike to paint: a face made almost entirely of wrinkles, and a helmet made of one continuous unbroken curve.

The helmet is given the full treatment. Bare silver metal, the T-shaped visor cut clean through the front, a low keel running over the crown, and a soft warm reflection of the room sliding around each cheek. Fine scratches cross the dome in every direction and one deeper dent sits above the brow. It stands on a cool grey-green surface, upright, as though set down a minute ago.

Grogu is draped over the top of it. Both forearms lie flat along the dome, claws hooked over the far edge, chin sunk almost to the metal, ears out level. The heavy robe hangs off him at the left and one foot shows below. His weight is genuinely on the helmet, which is the hardest part of this to draw and the part that has been got right.

The background is a single loose wash of olive and rust with a warmer glow behind his head, and no detail whatsoever. It exists to keep the silver reading as silver.

The creed the armour's owner follows forbids him to show his face to another living being, so the helmet has to do the work of a face for him throughout the series. Here a child is using it as furniture, which is either a joke or the whole relationship, depending on how you look at it.
