Han Solo and Crew Dodging Fire in the Millennium Falcon — Print & Oil Painting

The viewpoint is the surprise. We are outside the ship, level with the cockpit and close enough to read the scorching on the plating, flying alongside the chase instead of sitting inside it.

Four faces are stacked in that round window at four different depths. The pilot is nearest, hands on the yoke, head turned out and down toward something below the frame. A woman leans in at his shoulder with her mouth open. A gold protocol droid stands between them with its head lifted, and furthest back, in the passage behind the cockpit, the Wookiee fills a side porthole. One window, four reactions, no two alike.

Two turbolaser bolts cross the upper third of the canvas as thick green bars with pale hot cores, and they carry the only saturated colour in the picture. Two TIE fighters run in above the hull, the nearer one banking so that its hexagonal panels turn edge-on, and asteroids sit at every distance from arm's length to the far corners.

The finish is photographic rather than painterly: panel seams, weld lines, grey plating rubbed back to bare metal, the docking ring and one mandible closing the lower right. Nothing is stylised, which is why the green bolts feel like a genuine intrusion into the frame.

Flying into a field like this is famously reckless. The droid in that window puts the odds of coming out the other side at roughly three thousand seven hundred and twenty to one, and is ignored.
