Jango Fett on Kamino with clones — Print & Oil Painting

The whole image is built from three things: black shapes, a field of cyan, and rain. There is no modelling anywhere, no texture inside any silhouette, and not one face. It is a poster solution applied to a scene that is usually painted.

The rain is ruled in as vertical streaks across the entire canvas, thicker where the light is strongest, and it is the one thing here allowed a soft edge. Everything else is cut clean.

A Kaminoan stands at the centre, the tallest thing in the frame: a narrow column of black with a long neck, a small tipped head, a gown falling straight to the deck, and two pale eyes glowing out of the dark. To her left, and noticeably shorter, stands a figure in Mandalorian armour, legs apart and arms loose, identifiable only by the T of the visor and the little rangefinder catching the same cyan.

Behind and beside them, two rows of clone helmets run out to both edges of the canvas, perhaps thirty of them, each one an identical black dome with an identical lit slit where the visor sits. Along the bottom edge a row of bright horizontal bars marks out the deck lighting, and a ship's dark wedge cuts across the upper right.

The design makes one hard point: in a picture about copies, the only man who is not a copy has been denied a face as well. From our Star Wars collection, next to the same gallery painted in full detail and those helmets years later, filthy and in the snow.
