Obi-Wan Kenobi Cradles a Dying Darth Maul on Tatooine — Print & Oil Painting

The composition is a pieta and makes no attempt to hide it. The older man is seated on the ground with the body laid across his lap, one arm under the shoulders, the head fallen back and the legs stretched out along the bottom edge of the frame.

Night does the rest. A deep blue field fills the upper two thirds, dusted with several hundred small white stars, and a single hard white moon sits at the top edge directly above the two heads. The desert floor is barely described, one flat band of darker blue with no features at all.

The dying man is painted in black and red, the pattern running over the scalp between a crown of short horns, the robes torn open across the chest, the lower legs rendered in dark metal with red seams where the plating separates. It is a body that has been rebuilt more than once and is now finished.

The face above him carries the picture. White hair, a short beard, the mouth slightly open, the eyes lowered and focused on nothing. One hand supports the shoulder; the other holds a silver hilt upright near the fallen head, close enough to read as an offering rather than as a weapon.

Their history runs across decades and three separate meetings, beginning with the death of one man's master and ending here, in the dark, with the survivor holding the man responsible.
