Kylo Ren vs Luke Skywalker on Crait — Print & Oil Painting

An extremely wide canvas with two figures pushed to its far edges and a great deal of nothing between them. Kylo Ren is on the left, crouched low and driving forward, his blade held back behind the line of his body. Luke stands at the right, upright and entirely still, the blue blade raised in one hand at shoulder height.

The ground between them does the storytelling. It is a pale crust broken open in long streaks, and everywhere it has cracked there is red underneath. This is the salt flat of Crait, painted as a horizontal band that runs the eye from one man to the other and back. A low bank of red dust hangs over the middle distance.

Sky takes the upper two-thirds: pale gold near the horizon, grey cloud above, a sun somewhere behind all of it. That backlight flattens both figures almost to silhouette and leaves the two blades as the only saturated colour in the picture.

The stillness on the right is the point of the painting. One man is spending everything he has on the charge; the other is standing on a planet he never set foot on, projected across the galaxy from an island, and the fight is being lost by the one doing all the moving.
