Obi-Wan Kenobi Deflecting Fire in the Rain — Print & Oil Painting

The block is overhead and two-handed. Both arms are up and locked above the head with the hilt gripped in black gloves, the blue blade running out level to the left, and a red bolt strikes it just off the hilt and throws a small white flare where the two meet. A second red bolt is still crossing the upper right corner, so the exchange is not over.

It is raining hard, and the rain is what holds the picture together. It falls as thousands of fine pale strokes at a consistent angle across every part of the canvas, over the armour, over the faces, over the sky, and it flattens all the distances into a single grey-blue field. Nothing in the background is allowed to stay sharp.

He is armoured rather than robed: white plastoid plates on both shoulders and forearms over a dark undersuit, with a tan sash still knotted at the waist and a brown belt beneath it. The head is bare, hair soaked flat, beard dripping, and the expression is one of effort rather than of confidence. He is braced, not posing.

Clone troopers fill both lower corners and the right edge, six or seven of them, in the earlier pattern of helmet with the tapered brow and the small fin. They are firing outward and away from him. Behind them low grey hulls sit half dissolved in the weather, and one of them carries a lit engine glow.
