Rex and Five Sneaking Through a Red Alien Jungle — Print & Oil Painting

The same fungal forest as its companion night piece, caught earlier in the evening and from much closer in. The canopies here are enormous ribbed caps in scarlet and rust, hanging low over everything, with a dusty rose sky showing between them and pale coral stalks holding them up.

The composition is a stakeout. Two clone troopers crowd the right third of the frame, very near the viewer, seen from behind and slightly above so we are crouched in the undergrowth with them. Their armour is white with blue markings across the helmets and shoulder plates, scuffed and dulled by the low light, and the nearer of the two has a pistol raised beside his head, muzzle up, waiting rather than aiming.

What they are watching sits well away at the middle left: two thin battle droids, tan and long-necked, standing over a device that throws a cold cyan glow up onto their chests. It is the only cool colour in the whole canvas and it sits at the exact spot the two helmets are turned toward.

Everything between the watchers and the watched is left deliberately empty. No cover, no third party, no movement, just open ground under the mushroom caps, which is what makes the distance feel like a decision somebody still has to make.

Rex commanded the 501st through most of the Clone Wars, and the blue on that armour is the legion's own marking rather than personal decoration. Part of our Star Wars collection, alongside the night approach through the same forest and the captain painted before the Republic crest.
