The Bad Batch Gather Beneath a Crimson Sky — Print & Oil Painting

Clone Force 99, shot from below like a war memorial. The five members of the Bad Batch fill the right two-thirds of the frame in a receding line, each helmet turned slightly differently, and the low camera angle makes them enormous — you are looking up at them from the ground.

The colour is the first thing that registers: a sky of hot pink and magenta cloud, unusual for the franchise and completely deliberate. Against it the armour reads as cool grey and gunmetal, and the red unit markings — the skull on Wrecker's pauldron, the stripes on Hunter's helmet — pick up the sky and tie the figures into it.

The artist has kept the detailing tight where it counts. Each helmet is individually characterised: the visored goggles, the rangefinder, the respirator grille, the scarred plate. You can name every one of them without seeing a face, which is exactly how the design of these characters is supposed to function.

Two starfighters cut across the upper left, trailing thin blue engine lines, and burning debris drifts down through the whole frame as small orange flecks. Part of our Star Wars collection, in the same animated register as the Clone Wars portrait.
