Geralt Holds a Severed Monster Head — Print & Oil Painting

Nothing here has been left as brushwork. Every link of mail, every scuff on a leather strap and every stray hair has been resolved to the level of a film still, and the face is built on the live-action screen likeness rather than on the game model, which gives the piece a different weight from most fan work in this collection.

The composition is a diagonal between two hands. The upper one is closed in a spiked gauntlet at the top right of the frame, knuckles toward us; hanging from it, filling the bottom right corner, is the head. It is held by a mass of dark tendrils, and the arm is raised just far enough to keep it clear of his own body.

The head is the light source. Its skin is split into a network of glowing orange fissures, like slag that has crusted over but not yet cooled, and the light from it throws warm reflections up onto the underside of the gauntlet and along the studs of his armour. A single slit eye and a row of exposed teeth are all the anatomy given.

Everything else is cold. Grey stone behind, black leather and steel mail across the chest, buckled straps crossing the sternum, embers drifting up through the frame as small red flecks. The face itself is neutral and slightly turned, mouth closed, giving nothing to the camera.
