Epona Stands on a Hilltop With Two Koroks — Print & Oil Painting

The saddle is empty, and that absence organises everything else. A chestnut mare stands alone on the crest of a grass ridge with her tack still on, reins hanging loose, one hind hoof resting, head lifted and turned slightly into a wind that is visibly moving her cream mane and tail.

Two thirds of the canvas is sky, painted in soft cumulus with real depth to it, blue at the top and warming toward the horizon. The grass below is a single bright green plane broken only by a few loose blades in the foreground and by feathers or leaves blowing across the field.

Down in the grass to the left, small enough to miss, stand two Koroks: one upright in a red leaf mask with its arms out, one squatting further forward under a green one. They come up to the horse's knee, and they are the only reason the hill has a sense of scale at all.

Koroks are the forest spirits who hide all over Hyrule in Breath of the Wild, so finding two of them attending an unattended horse is a joke about how the world keeps busy when nobody is looking.
