Link Stands on a Glowing Circle in the Shadow Temple — Print & Oil Painting

The floor is the subject. A wide ring of pale teal script has been inscribed into the flagstones, two concentric circles with a band of characters running between them and a lattice of finer marks inside, and it is the brightest thing in a chamber that is otherwise almost entirely black.

He stands at the centre of it on a low round dais, small, turned away from us. The shield is on his arm and a single point of orange fire burns in his other hand, a tiny warm counterweight to all that cold light. Ahead of him a slab of dull red stone is set into the far wall carrying a carved face, and one white winged spark hovers at its edge.

Six tall iron stands ring the circle, every one of them unlit, and the glow from the floor throws their shadows outward across the flagstones in long spokes. That radiating pattern does most of the compositional work, pulling the eye inward from every corner of the canvas.

Above, heavy timber beams cross the ceiling and stone piers run down both sides, all of it in near-black greens and greys with barely any contrast, so the eye never leaves the ring for long.
