Jabba the Hutt Extends His Hand to Approaching Warriors — Print & Oil Painting

A dim hall painted in browns and smoke, with shafts of pale light coming down from somewhere high on the right. Jabba fills the entire left third from his dais: a huge tapering mass of mottled hide, the small arms absurdly undersized against the bulk, the wide lipless mouth shut, the eyes half-lidded. One arm is stretched out across the middle of the canvas with the hand open and the fingers spread.

What that hand is reaching for is standing to the right of centre. Ahsoka Tano, small, upright, in a dark tunic, is carrying a bundle in both arms, and the bundle has a head, pale and heavy, lolling against her shoulder.

The rest of the court is left deliberately unresolved: a battered protocol droid a few steps behind her, a taller thin figure further back, several more shapes dissolving into the murk, and at the extreme right a foreground head and shoulder in near-silhouette that puts the viewer inside the crowd.

Lighting carries the negotiation. Jabba sits in a warm orange glow thrown up from his own dais, she stands in the cold vertical light from above, and the outstretched arm crosses the boundary between them.
