Drawn in the flat, hard-edged language of the animated series, and the piece is a demonstration of how much that style can carry once the lighting is done properly. Every surface is a clean shape, every shadow is a decision, and the only soft things in the frame are the dust and the glow.

The composition is a wide V. She stands at the front with both arms flung out and down, a blade in each hand held in a reversed grip, the two beams running toward the bottom corners. He stands directly behind and slightly above her with both pistols raised and his wrists crossed, covering the angles her blades do not.

Her costume is grey and blue with a wide belt, forearm guards and long boots, and her head-tails have grown far enough down her chest to date the piece precisely. His armour is white with blue markings across the helmet and the shoulder, scuffed at every edge, the rangefinder folded up beside the crest.

They are standing on rubble inside a ship that is coming apart. Broken panels and blocks fill the lower quarter of the canvas, debris falls in short white streaks through the upper half, and two tall windows at the back throw a cold light that outlines them both. A third blue glow flares at the left edge, cut off by the frame.
