Ahsoka Tano Raises Twin Sabers in a Dark Cave — Print & Oil Painting

Close, low and lit from the blades upward. Ahsoka fills the centre of the frame from the chest up, chin slightly raised, and her two lightsabers cross in front of her body, one running out to the left and the shorter one angled up to the right, so their light rakes across her jaw and throat from below.

Both blades are white. Not blue, not green: a clean bleached white that reads almost as bare light on the canvas and puts every other colour in the picture into the cool register behind it.

The head is painted with care. The montrals rise pale grey-white with their charcoal banding, the two head-tails fall forward over the shoulders in the same stripe, and the facial markings are exact: the white sweep over the brows, the diamond at the centre of the forehead, the marks on the cheeks. She wears a plain dark sleeveless top with a strap across the shoulder and a bracer with a metal disc on the left forearm.

The setting is barely there on purpose: wet rock, moss, a greenish gloom that swallows everything more than a metre behind her. All the modelling comes from the weapons.

The colour of those blades is the detail worth knowing. They were not built white: the crystals came out of Inquisitor hilts and were cleaned of what had been done to them, which is why they belong to no order at all.
