Boba Fett Reimagined as an Armored Medieval Knight — Print & Oil Painting

A translation exercise, and a careful one. The figure stands square to us in a dust-coloured emptiness, and every part of him has been converted from moulded plate into forged steel: a rounded breastplate with a raised central boss, articulated pauldrons, a fauld of overlapping lames at the waist, cuisses, greaves, heavy sabatons. The metal is green-grey with brass edging and all of it is dented.

The helm is where the idea lands. The silhouette is kept exactly, with its flattened dome, notched brow and T-shaped opening, but it has been beaten out of steel rather than cast, the visor band is a maroon inlay, and one long curved horn has been fixed to the side, rising well above the crown. It is the only asymmetric thing on the figure and it does all the work.

He rests both gauntlets on the pommel of a broad axe planted head-down in the dirt, arms straight, weight even on both feet. A yellow-ochre cape lifts and streams out to the right in a wind that is disturbing nothing else in the picture, and a long maroon tabard hangs down the front to the knee.

The background gives nothing away: olive and ochre haze, a suggestion of hills, no horizon line worth the name. That vagueness is deliberate. It lets the armour be read as belonging to either era, and the figure looks entirely at home in both.
