Boba Fett Holds His Rifle in Amber Toned Light — Print & Oil Painting

Worked in dry media on toned paper, and the medium is half the pleasure: you can see where the pastel has been dragged flat across the tooth, where it has been pushed into the grain with a finger, and where the paper has simply been left bare to stand for a highlight.

The background is a smoked amber wash with no information in it whatsoever, darker at the corners, lighter behind the helmet, so the figure is separated by tone alone rather than by any drawn edge.

The helmet takes the centre. Its dome is a mottled green worked over with grey and ochre, the visor sits in a deep maroon surround, a short antenna rises at the crown and the rangefinder stalk stands folded beside it. Every dent has been given its own small change of colour rather than a hard line.

Below, the armour is a catalogue of repairs: a scored chest plate with two rectangular fittings, one yellow shoulder and one bone-white one, a braid of cords hanging at the left, and a wide belt of square pouches running across the bottom of the sheet. The rifle enters at the upper left, held upright, with a gloved hand around the grip.

Nothing is clean and nothing matches, which is the correct reading of a suit assembled and patched over decades of use. From our Star Wars collection, alongside the same helmet drawn in a smoky hold and the version pushed into electric colour.
