Boba Fett Surveys a Sunset City From a Rooftop — Print & Oil Painting

A hunter on a ledge with an entire city laid out beneath him, and the city is given at least as much attention as the man. Domes, towers, terraces and gantries in cream and gold run back to a hazy horizon, a monorail line curves in from the left, and small craft cross the sky at three different depths.

He sits at the right of the frame with one boot braced on the ledge, in three-quarter profile, the weathered green helmet turned out over the view. The kit is legible piece by piece: a mustard shoulder plate carrying a dark red device, a cream cape falling behind, yellow gloves and knee plates, and the jetpack with its pointed missile standing up past his head. A long scoped rifle rests across the ledge in front of him, pointed out over the drop.

The whole picture is lit by a low sun somewhere off the right edge. Sky and city share the same orange and rose, and the artist has kept the figure a value or two darker than everything behind him, so he sits on the view rather than in it.

The detail that turns the piece is down on the landing platform at the lower left. Parked there, unmistakable in silhouette, is a freighter with a forward fork and an offset cockpit. The man watching it from above with a rifle across his knee once followed that ship to a city in the clouds and was paid for it.
