Darth Revan Walks Through a Blazing Canyon — Print & Oil Painting

Drawn rather than modelled: clean contours, flat colour areas, minimal blending, the vocabulary of animated key art. It gives the figure a hard cut-out quality that the misty painted versions of this character never have.

He is walking toward us down the centre of the frame, weight forward, the long divided tabard swinging out behind the legs. The costume is almost entirely black: hood, mask, split skirt, boots, with a band of grey plating across the chest and a wide belt at the waist. Against the fire behind him he is essentially a silhouette with details drawn on top.

The canyon is built from big angular slabs of rust and tan rock, stacked on both sides and receding in flat planes toward a bright orange glare at the centre horizon. Smoke rolls across the upper third. Down at the base of the right wall the artist has put a row of small pale rectangles, lit windows or panels, which is the only hint that any of this is inhabited.

One violet blade hangs from the right hand, angled down and forward, low enough to nearly touch the rock. It is the single cool colour in an image measuring above half saturation in the red and orange register, and holding it low was the right call: raised, it would have competed with the sky, and this way it cuts.
