Darth Revan Walks Through a Misty Purple Forest — Print & Oil Painting

Two blades, two different colours, and the whole canvas tuned to them. The weapon in the left hand burns a hard scarlet; the one in the right burns violet-magenta. Both are held low and angled out to the corners, and between them the ground fog is lit from underneath in both colours at once.

He stands at the centre of a circular platform of fitted flagstones, and that circle is the only man-made thing in the picture. Its rim catches the pink of the blades and separates the figure cleanly from the forest floor beyond.

The costume is worked in silhouette rather than in detail: the hooded mask with its narrow eye slit, plated shoulders and vambraces, a segmented tabard of vertical strips falling to the shins, and a long cape opening behind. The artist has kept it almost black so that the two lights read as the only events on the figure.

Behind him the woodland is a wall of blue-violet haze with bare trunks standing in it, thinning as they recede until they are only slightly darker than the mist. There is no sky, no path and no horizon. The trees simply stop being visible.

The high-key neon treatment is a modern reading of a very old character, and it works because the palette is disciplined: everything is violet except the two blades, and the two blades are the only warm and cool notes in the picture.
