Darth Revan Crosses a Purple and Crimson Blade — Print & Oil Painting

Almost the entire canvas has been painted in one colour. Wet slate grey runs from the top edge to the bottom, a rock face behind the figure dissolving into vapour, and the robes themselves are only a darker version of the same grey. Two blades are the only exceptions, and the artist has clearly built the picture around that scarcity.

They cross low, at hip height, well below the head. The crimson one runs out to the lower right and throws a warm bloom onto the glove and the belt buckle; the violet one climbs to the upper right, cooler, thinner, its glow barely reaching the cloth. Neither is raised. They are held down and apart in the position of a man who has stopped rather than started.

Under the hood there is a mask, and it is the one piece of the costume given any real detail: a pale faceplate with a crimson tracery running across it, the eye slots reading as two dark notches. Everything below it is deliberately vague. The cape falls in broad wet strokes, the layered leather at the chest is suggested rather than described, and the lower third of the figure simply fades into the dark.

The measured saturation sits at about a quarter, which is low for a subject with two lit weapons in it, and that is exactly the point. The blades read as bright because nothing else is allowed to.

The mask was never Sith work. It was lifted from the battlefield at Cathar, where it had belonged to a Mandalorian woman who tried to stop the slaughter of that world and was killed with its people, and it was worn afterward in her memory.
