Grogu Sitting Among Falling Petals in the Canyons — Print & Oil Painting

The petals do the work here. Magenta and violet flakes drift across every part of the canvas, broad and soft where they pass close to the viewer, small and crisp deeper in, and they set the whole image moving in one direction without the figure having to move at all.

Grogu sits low and central, wrapped to the chin in a heavy grey collar, both ears held level. His left hand is up and open at shoulder height with the fingers apart. The other arm drops out of sight behind a rounded metal hull that fills the lower right of the frame: ribbed, scuffed, fitted with a hinge on one side and a single square panel.

All the light arrives from behind him, through a gap where two canyon walls fail to meet, and it is the only warm thing in the picture. Whatever it reaches turns cream and pale gold. Whatever it misses, which includes every part of him, is painted in slate blue and cold green, so the most familiar face in this collection turns up in a colour it does not usually wear.

The rock is handled loosely, tall pale columns fading back into haze, and thin purple stems lean in from both lower corners. Nothing below knee height is described in any detail. The whole budget has gone on the head.
