The vehicle gets as much attention as the passenger, which is unusual and turns out to be the right decision. The shell is a cream-white sphere, cracked open along one side, with the upper section hinged back like a lid over his head.

Its surface is a record of use: hairline fractures running down from the opening, brown scorch marks in irregular blooms, chips knocked out of the lower curve. A dark inset panel on the front carries three small white indicator squares, and a chromed clamp stands proud on the right. Somebody has kept this thing running for a very long time.

Underneath, a soft grey oval of shadow sits on nothing at all. It is the single piece of evidence that the pod is airborne, and it has been placed with real care, offset slightly to the right so that the whole arrangement leans.

The sky is a flat gradient from lilac at the top to pale blue at the horizon, with one washed-out disc in the upper left and no other information anywhere. That emptiness is what makes the piece read as a poster rather than a scene.

He rides with both hands on the rim, wrapped in a dusty rose blanket, skin painted blue-grey against all that warm violet, and the expression is neither anxious nor delighted.
