Two Hooded Duelists Standing Over a Kneeling Figure — Print & Oil Painting

Everything is seen from above, looking down into a wet grey clearing from perhaps two storeys up. That angle flattens all three figures into shapes on a floor and drains the heroism out of the staging completely. It belongs to a surveillance record rather than to a duel.

Two hooded figures hold the centre, robed in rust and brown, faces entirely hidden. One holds a red blade up and back above the shoulder. The other holds a red blade out at arm's length to the side, with a second red blade angled down behind him. Neither is lunging. They are simply standing, which is worse.

Down at the lower left, a third figure kneels in dark robes with one bare hand raised palm-out, and a faint blue light gathers around the fingers. That small patch of blue is the only cool colour on the canvas and it is a fraction of the area of either red blade.

Two more blue blades lie on the ground nearby, one at the bottom edge and one further off to the left, still lit, dropped rather than thrown. The ground is churned mud and standing water laid in as long horizontal drags of grey, with dark wreckage or dead trees closing the top of the frame.

The title names nobody and the picture backs it up: no faces, no insignia, no way to tell which order any of these three belongs to. All the storytelling is done by the difference in height between people standing and a person kneeling.
