Luke Skywalker Cutting Through a Corridor of Dark Troopers — Print & Oil Painting

The view is taken from directly behind him: the back of the hood, the back of the cloak, one arm raised with the blade held vertical. He is walking away from the viewer into a corridor, and the painting follows him at a distance of about two metres.

The picture is a war between two colours. Red comes from every direction at once, the ceiling strips converging overhead, the muzzle flashes on both walls, a hot glow at the far end. Green comes from one place only, straight up the middle. Both are fully saturated and neither gives ground.

The droids are ranked along both sides, black and hunched forward, their optics burning in pairs. One at the right fires from the hip with the flash still on the muzzle, and a heavy arm at the lower right throws a fountain of gold sparks across the bottom of the canvas.

That lower third is almost entirely debris: gold flecks, torn plating, dust lifted toward the viewer and blurred with movement. The floor is never visible. The corridor is legible only through its ceiling and its walls, which is a disorienting way to build a space and exactly the right one here.

On screen this whole sequence is watched on a monitor by the people he came to rescue, and the painting keeps that arrangement precisely: we are standing where they were standing, at a safe remove, watching somebody else's problem being solved.
