X-Wings Streak Through a Crimson Nebula — Print & Oil Painting

This canvas sits among the darkest in the lot and it holds almost nothing. Flat black fills the frame, a fine scatter of white stars is laid over it, and a dark blue curtain of vertical streaks stands at the right edge. There is no planet, no ship of the line and no ground of any kind.

Three fighters occupy that emptiness at three depths. The largest crosses the centre right, seen from the front quarter with the foils open, dark grey with a blue stripe along the fuselage and the canopy glazing catching a cold highlight. A second runs in from the left with its engine ports glowing blue, and a third sits small and low at the bottom left.

Colour has been rationed to two events. Magenta and violet exhaust trails smear back from the near ship in soft horizontal bands, and two cannon bolts fire off to the right as short red bars with white cores, one at the top of the frame and one at the lower right. Those bolts are the only genuinely red thing on the canvas.

Everything else in the image argues for cold. The hulls are unlit except where the stars and their own engines reach them, the modelling is restrained, and the paint stays smooth and dark, so the eye keeps returning to the small hot marks the guns are making.
