Palpatine Emperor Propaganda Poster — Print & Oil Painting

Four colours and nothing else: a grey-blue, a brick red, a bone cream and the paper. The face has been separated into flat planes the way a screen print separates them, with hard edges where a painter would have blended, and the result reads instantly as a political poster from a century we can name.

It is an old man's head and shoulders, three quarters on, occupying the middle third of the sheet. The hair is swept back in grey blocks, the jaw is set, the eyes look slightly past the viewer, and the lines around the mouth have been drawn as red wedges rather than as shadow. He wears a dark robe with a red collar standing up at the throat.

Behind the head, a cogged circular emblem sits at the top of the sheet in dark red and grey, and broad rays run out from it to the corners, one of them passing directly behind the face. The device is not explained and does not need to be.

Two lines of red Aurebesh fill the lower quarter, large enough to be read across a street. The paper edges are left visible on all four sides, foxed and slightly torn, so the whole thing sits somewhere between an artefact and a reproduction.

The interesting choice is the face itself. Nothing here is monstrous: this is the statesman, calm and grandfatherly, which is exactly the image a regime built on one man's public reasonableness would put on a wall.
