The game behind the collection

Bloodborne is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony for the PlayStation 4 in 2015, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. It is set in Yharnam, a decaying city where a blood-borne plague has turned much of the population into beasts, and it draws on gothic and cosmic horror rather than on the medieval fantasy of the studio’s earlier work. Its story is told obliquely, through item descriptions and architecture rather than exposition, which is a large part of why it still sustains an active community of players and theorists.
